Increased capacity and public space for Westhaven Marina

Increased capacity and public space for Westhaven Marina

Westhaven Marina users will enjoy new berths and public space in 2020 following Board approval.

Currently, Westhaven Marina is operating all pontoon berths at full capacity and there is a growing demand for new berths. This development will use existing marina waterspace more effectively, delivering many benefits to the Westhaven Marina community.

Existing pile moorings, which are only accessible by water, will be consolidated to create 50 new serviced berths that are easily accessed by land.

To create a calmer environment for these new berths, the western entrance to the marina will close. This will also create room for new public space, including trees, raingardens and a viewing platform, providing new perspectives of the Waitematā and seating and open areas for watching boat-races. More than 100 new car parks will also be created to service the increased capacity.

All boats will use the eastern entrance to enter and exit the marina. The eastern entrance has plenty of space and good visibility, but while users adjust to the change, Westhaven staff will be on the water to monitor movements and assist when required.

We’re also proactively working with mana whenua to develop a design for this project that embraces cultural and environmental values.

Construction is expected to begin next week commencing 9 December. We look forward to the completion of what will be a fantastic new asset for the marina and Auckland.
