Is there an overall plan for the waterfront’s development?
Y
es, the Waterfront Plan is a non-statutory plan under the Auckland Plan published in 2012 by Waterfront Auckland (a previous version of Panuku). It sets out the vision, goals and strategy to deliver development projects over 30 years.

Who is responsible for all the construction around the waterfront? Land ownership and operation across the waterfront is a mix of private and public. Much of the construction underway currently is council-led under the Waterfront Plan. If you have a question about a specific project or construction site, please let us know via the contact form on our website and we will direct your enquiry to the right person, and one of our team will be in contact.

Each construction site has an information board on display with the site contact person and their details. Sustainability

What is the waterfront’s approach to sustainability?
Sustainability is an essential part of creating a healthy neighbourhood in Wynyard Quarter. Panuku’s sustainability aspirations and commitments for Wynyard Quarter are set out in the Sustainable Development Framework 2013. You can also read more about sustainability here.

Transport

Who is responsible for transport around the waterfront, including Wynyard Quarter?
Auckland Transport is responsible for all transport in public areas, including the waterfront. If you have any questions about transport in the area, please visit Auckland Transport’s contact page here.      

Where can I park my car, or my bike around the waterfront?

Car parking
If you're coming from Downtown Auckland, Viaduct Harbour or Te Wero Island, Downtown Car Park is the most convenient at 31 Customs Street West. Disability car parking is available in the Jellicoe Street Car Park at the end closest to the Playspace.

How do I get to the waterfront?

Walking
From Britomart, Wynyard Quarter is a short five-minute walk down Quay Street, on to Te Wero Island and across the new Wynyard Crossing Bridge. Wynyard Quarter is an easy stroll from downtown Auckland, Victoria Park, Ponsonby and neighbouring suburbs.

Cycling
Auckland is home to many wonderful cycling pathways, and several cycle past the waterfront. Helmets need to be worn at all times. Check out this map for the waterfront cycle paths to be enjoyed.

Driving
From Fanshawe Street take either Halsey or Beaumont Street onto Jellicoe Street.

The 36th America’s Cup (AC36)

Who is running the event, and what is happening?
America’s Cup Event Ltd has been established by Emirates Team New Zealand to run the event.

A collaborative work programme involving mana whenua, America’s Cup Events Ltd, the Auckland Council group, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and a number of Crown agencies, as well as other partners, has been established to prepare for and manage all aspects of the event.

What new infrastructure is being built for AC36?
The Wynyard Edge Alliance has been formed to build the waterfront infrastructure required for the event and construction works are underway. Between January 2019 and March 2020, Wynyard Edge Alliance completed all project milestones on budget and ahead of programme, including handing over all America's Cup bases. More than 1500 people have worked on the build to date, learning new skills and providing jobs for people from all over Auckland. Next milestones include completion of the Daldy Street Outfall, Silo Park and some superyacht facilities.
