We’ve really missed hanging out with you all at Silo Park! It’s certainly been a turbulent time, but we have some great news that we think you’ll enjoy.
The Silo Park of yesteryear is adapting and extending out across the Wynyard Quarter and will be back to entertain, surprise & delight you this Summer.
Come and explore the whole Wynyard Quarter & all that it has to offer from 15 January to 6 March 2022.
With the uncertainty of the past year, and the switching levels and colours of restrictions to keep us all safe, we’ve changed tack this year – rather than hosting events, we’re opting to go for some smaller & more bite-sized morsels of activity for you to enjoy.
Most activities will be self-guided, meaning you can pop down to the waterfront at your leisure, and there will be something for you and your friends & whānau to do.
Alongside these activities, you’re invited to enjoy Silo Park anytime, all summer long. Over 2021 the team have been busy adding new additions to Silo Park, which we invite you to come explore over the summer.
There is 2,700sqm of new, open public space that expands our much-loved Park for everyone to enjoy, connecting it to North Wharf and Wynyard Wharf.
Amongst the proud additions are new, interactive play areas and equipment, a shade structure called Te Nukuao, seating, bike racks, more greenery and native plants, as well as nine stainless steel tanks that reflect the waterfront’s industrial heritage.
Kids and adults alike can experience the ‘Playline’: bespoke interactive play equipment created from old pipes and fittings salvaged from the Bulk Storage Terminal tanks of the old working Wynyard Wharf. From swings that light up to a misting controller for hot summer days, there’s no shortage of fun exploring the Playline’s creativity.
We hope you can join us for what will be a marvellous summer of good times down in the Wynyard Quarter.

2- The Wynyard Quarter Art Trail
15 January - 6 March
Come & explore the incredible art dotted around the Wynyard Quarter against the picturesque canvas of the Tāmaki Makaurau waterfront.
The trail features engaging visual installations, is suitable for all ages and will change regularly! We encourage both residents and visitors to the area to pop back more than once during the season, to check out the new installations, and re-discover the permanent works.
There are many mahi toi (art works) that have been created by Māori artists in collaboration with mana whenua across the waterfront, rich in both narrative and artistic disciplines. From traditional Māori weaving and carving, to sculpture and mural painting, Eke Panuku has been working with mana whenua to seek opportunities to elevate and showcase māori toi across the waterfront so that tangata whenua can see themselves and their culture in the modern landscape of Tāmaki Makaurau.
You may have seen and played on art across the waterfront and wanted to know who created it, or what it's called? Walk the trail to re-discover classics like ‘Sound of the Sea’ and ‘The Wind Tree’ and learn about all the new additions too.
Over summer we’ll have pop-up and temporary art installations in the quarter to surprise and delight. Some of the new things you can look forward to are: 🌈 Rainbow Machine, 🏳️🌈Te Tīmatanga Takatāpui Festival for Auckland Pride, 🐋Whale Tales, and more.
3- The Wynyard Quarter Scavenger Hunt
Tia & the lost bucket hat
29 January - 27 February, launching Auckland Anniversary Weekend!
Pop down with the whānau to Silo Park anytime from 29 Jan - 27 Feb and help Tia the Tarāpunga (red-billed gull) on a mission across the waterfront to find her favourite yellow bucket hat!
Along the way you’ll get to explore areas of the waterfront, be entertained by Tia and her friends, and at the end you can go into the draw to win some sweet summer prizes. We think this is a hunt that’s fun for all ages, but for the tamariki it’s best suited to ages 3 and up. The journey is approximately 1.5km long, and will take about 1 hour to complete. It involves some stairs, but there is the option to use a lift.
Bring a mobile device to scan in at each location and listen along to the audio guides, OR read along to the story with the printed signs provided at each spot.
