We chat with Rod Marler - urban design extraordinaire

Long before he was the leader of the regeneration of Auckland’s waterfront, Rod Marler - as a boy of five - used to go with his dad to work on their classic yacht. He remembers when there were guards in front of the red gates stopping public from entering the waterfront area, and has watched as this fortified place has turned into a place for families and friends to spend quality time.

We sat down with Rod Marler, General Manager of Design and Place at Panuku to learn more about his career and how his name came to be synonymous with “waterfront” - and not just Auckland’s.
