Westhaven wins boatloads at the NZMOA awards
This week, Auckland played host to the NZ Marina Operators Association (NZMOA) Annual Conference and Awards Dinner.
Held at the Maritime Museum, David Rankin opened the conference on Wednesday, welcoming attendees from all over New Zealand. He spoke about Panuku and Auckland Council’s significant investment into the infrastructure required to host the upcoming America’s Cup.
Kevin Lidgard’s presentation followed straight after, and he provided insight into Westhaven as a working marina and public space. He spoke to the several projects underway currently such as the redevelopment of piers, the stage two of the Westhaven promenade, the introduction of the Marine Village and the Pile Berth redevelopment projects. He also spoke to marina initiatives such as the digital parking system implemented by David Marginet earlier this year. The following day, the Westhaven Marina team hosted a boat tour for the conference group around the Marina’s and Americas Cup facilities.
Last night to round off the conference, the NZMOA award dinner took place. Westhaven Marina was in the running for a number of awards such as the Marina of the Year, Best Environmental Performer, Outstanding Initiative Award and Outstanding Individual Contribution for Kevin Lidgard.
The evening was a real success for the Marina and the team came away with three awards; the Outstanding Initiative Award for the ‘Load’n Go’ berth, highly commended in the Marina of the Year Category, and Kevin Lidgard, unbeknown to his nomination, was presented the Outstanding Individual Contribution award. This recognition for Kevin is a testament to his hard work, dedication to the industry and dedication to his team and colleagues. Kevin is a highly respected leader within the industry who leads with kindness, empathy and outstanding story telling skills.
“Last night was an amazing evening to recognise the team for all their hard work, and it was great to be recognised for what we do by our peers within the marina industry,” says Karenza Harris, Westhaven Marina Manager.
“I was particularly proud to see Kevin on stage receiving his award. It’s not often he’s left speechless, but that really did it” she said.
These accolades are the cherry on the top of a fruitful year for Westhaven Marina. In February this year Westhaven Marina received the Blue Flag accreditation for the 14th consecutive year and last night they also received their award for achieving the NZMOA Clean Marina status.
Congratulations Westhaven Marina, mahi nui!
