Welcome back to the waterfront at level 2
Haere mai, welcome back! Although your waterfront experience may be a little different under the Government’s level 2 guidelines, the warm welcome from our local waterfront businesses and beautiful seaside location remains the same.
Under level 4, we saw the waterfront become still and reflective – a chance to regenerate after another fun-filled summer. Thank you for staying home when needed.
Under level 3 we started to welcome our local businesses and construction workers back safely as the waterfront slowly started up again. Thank you for your efforts to #SupportLocal so far – but don’t stop there! Now’s the time to show your appreciation for the people who are part of the waterfront’s fabric.
Below is information about how the waterfront will operate at level 2. We encourage you to make the most of the open spaces designed for people to enjoy safely and continue to #SupportLocal as we all do our part to help our local economy thrive again.
#SupportLocal
Most of the waterfront’s local businesses will be back up and running from Thursday, 14 May under the level 2 guidelines. We applaud all the local business owners and managers who have worked so hard to pivot and innovate in this changing environment to continue to bring people the food, experiences, and services they love safely.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @yourwaterfront as we share all the local eateries opening up at level 2 – and visit their websites and social feeds to understand how they’ll be operating with social distancing and contact tracing practices in place.
Wynyard Crossing Bridge
We are pleased to announce, that following the Government’s announcement to lower the alert level to 2, on the morning of 14 May the Wynyard Crossing Bridge will begin operating again.
As part of the restart process, we are currently completing initial works to help things run as smoothly as possible, but please allow for a couple of hours on the morning of Thursday for final testing to take place.
So, now you have options on which way to go! What will it be; the scenic or the express route? The express route (via the Bridge) leads you straight to Rushworth’s coffee…
Construction
Construction across the waterfront will operate the same as at level 3. All sites will continue to operate with health and safety plans in place so contractors can work safely and maintain appropriate distancing from each other at all times on work sites. You can find out more information here.
Transport
Public transport will recommence to usual timetables under level 2, including fare collection. You can read more about public transport at level 2 here.
Playspaces
We’re pleased our playspaces, including Silo Park playground and the half court, are re-open today. “Please enjoy them with your families but remember to follow health guidelines. “ – Mayor Phil Goff. More information can be found here.
Facilities
The Silo Park Playground toilets are getting an upgrade and will be closed to the public for a couple of weeks. You can use temporary toilets by the gantry, the new Silo 6 toilets, or those at Karanga Kiosk.
