Working in collaboration with Fu Wah, Eke Panuku facilitated the development of Auckland’s first five star hotel and New Zealand’s first Park Hyatt Hotel.
Boasting 195 rooms alongside five event spaces, a fitness centre, restaurants and a 25m pool, the Park Hyatt Auckland is a landmark of luxury and a welcomed addition to the Wynyard Quarter. There are pou whenua on the east and west entrances which tell the stories of Tāmaki Makaurau, carved by Sunnah Thompson and Lawrence Makoare of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Vern Rosieur and Wikuki Kingi of the group Whaotapu (Sacred Chisels).
From custom Tukutuku panels and rugs to a giant carved wooden waka on the wall in the porte-cochère. Restaurants include Onemata, the hotel’s signature restaurant serving local produce, the Panty, a café with brunch classics like eggs benedict and granola with innovative twists, and all-day restaurant the Living Room serving breakfast, afternoon high tea and dinner.
